Denali Randonneurs Rules of Engagement
1. The Covid pandemic has resulted in changes to the way we conduct rides. We have made every effort to go as paper-less and contact-free as possible.
For starters, all waivers are completed digitally in accordance with RUSA and insurer requirements. A completed waiver for each event you register for is required before you are allowed to ride with Denali Randonneurs.
We encourage riders to utilize Electronic Proof of Passage (EPP) to confirm ride results. While use of EPP is preferred, traditional hard copy brevet cards are available at rider request. More on EPP here.
We no longer provide cuesheets, riders may instead download cuesheets directly from the respective RideWithGPS (rwgps) link. While most of our routes are well-established and unlikely to change, the official rwgps link will generally be confirmed 1-2 weeks from scheduled ride date.
Lastly, riders will at all times comply with applicable local, state, and federal directives related to ongoing public health situations.
2. While participating in any Denali Randonneurs event you are an ambassador for cycling in Alaska. PLEASE conduct yourself in a way that would make an unexpected appearance on social media proud!
3. Know the rules of the road and follow them. Courtesy and discretion are paramount.
4. Randonneuring is, by definition, un-supported endurance cycling. After the ride begins, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! The only exception to this rule is our Gakona-based Solstice 600K, which will have a sweep vehicle and (minimal) on-course support. In every other circumstance your randonneuring self-reliance is expected to carry the day. You got this!
5. For the Denali Highway and Denali Park Road brevets there is a MANDATORY safety meeting on the Thursday evening before the ride. These two locations are very remote and riders will be screened to ensure they are bear-aware and familiar with riding in outback Alaska.
6. Enjoy the ride!
* FAILURE to comply with RUSA Rules for Riders (bicycle lighting and reflective gear will be inspected for night rides) OR State of Alaska traffic laws as they pertain to cycling ARE grounds for disqualification. *
