Proof of Passage - 2024

Proof of Passage verification has long been the domain of pen-and-ink entry on hard-copy brevet cards, but no more! Consistent with current ACP and RUSA rules, Electronic Proof of Passage (EPP) is now accepted to verify ride results. We welcome the addition of this option and encourage riders to use it. A few notes about Proof of Passage generally and EPP specifically:

1. It is mandatory in all cases to check in with organizer at the start before the ride, at controls as required along the route, and after you finish. If the finish control is not manned a simple text or email will do. If you are unable to finish (DNF) or abandon the ride for any reason notify the organizer ASAP!

2. Riders may continue to verify Proof of Passage by way of hard-copy brevet cards; however, riders choosing this option will have to print their own brevet card before the ride. A brevet card link will be available for download one to two weeks before the scheduled ride date, and all riders will have a digital copy of brevet card emailed to them before the ride. Brevet cards will not be provided at the start!

3. EPP options are varied and include: GPS track, SpotWalla Trip page, time-stamped photos, etc. Anyone utilizing GPS or SpotWalla is encouraged to take time-stamped photos as a backup in case of GPS failure or subsequent data corruption issues.

4. Use of GPS track is simple enough, email GPS link to organizer after you finish. Strava (preferred), Garmin, Wahoo, and other formats are accepted so long as they are public, easy to understand, and show rider position in real-time along the route. Elapsed ride time begins at the scheduled start time and ends when the rider stops moving at the finish control. Please email link to the ride itself, not a screenshot of your result! The ride link must show the finish time of day!

5. SpotWalla supports use of Spot and other GPS devices. To use SpotWalla for EPP you will need to set up a SpotWalla Trip page and ensure the device data includes positions at the start and finish.

6. Brevet card users will either drop off or mail their brevet card to organizer. EPP users are expected to submit EPP results within 48 hours of finish. Failure to meet the 48 hour deadline may result in no ride credit.

7. Contact us if there is an EPP option you would like to use that is not described above.
